Research
My research activities reflect my highly interdisciplinary background, which began with my double course of study, literary
and linguistic-philological, obtained as part of a dual doctoral program between France and Italy. As a result, my scientific
production is focused on several themes that appear different, but are all grounded in the same approach. In fact, what
interests me most is to study the relationships between artistic productions, social movements and political positions.
This is why analysing the texts of violent conflictssuch as the two world wars, as well as ideological and cultural
conflictsare at the core of my work. The disciplines I have covered so far are literature, linguistics (particularly
sociolinguistics), dialectology, onomastics, and digital humanities. In my research, I have practiced historical analysis or
applied a methodological approach such as that of Cultural Studies. My work occurs after the corpus has been created,
after the text has been digitally analysed and before the data is represented. My first specialization in computer science
is data visualisation: I am a specialist in digital cartography, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), network analysis. I
have programming skills in Python and JavaScript, but my environment of choice is R.

Digital Skills
Coding Languages and Source Code Editor
My training as a Digital Humanist has involved learning how to encode. As a sociolinguist, I first focused on Python and R
to produce speech analysis for my studies. Later, I got interested in cartographic and visual analysis and I started to
approach JavaScript, and then I adapted my knowledge of R and Python to the cartographic and graphical visualization of
my research. One of the starting points of my training was clearly the XML-TEI markup that I use in my workflow, especially
for the recognition and association of attributes to certain categories of speech such as proper names, including
anthroponyms and toponyms:
Coding and markup Languages: html & css, xml-TEI, JavaScript, Python, R
Editeur et Environnement de développement: Brackets, Sublime, Atom, Oxygen, XML Editor, RStudio
Dissemination of Contents Online
Internet is important for teaching activities and, also, for research purposes. Over time I have learned to use services that
are important for university activities:
Html et CSM
GitHub: Web hosting and management service for software and application development. Use of Git decentralized
version management.
9
Moodle : Creation of interactive teaching materials.
Conftool & Sciencesconf : Tools for organizing and managing scientific events.
Digital Humanities specialities
1
My digital specialties are related to my expertise as a humanist. My interdisciplinary approach is reflected in my computer
training because my digital learning was based on my needs as a researcher and teacher. All these skills were acquired in
the framework of specific training courses and therefore certified by training institutions.
- My linguistic-literary approach led me to turn to the tools that are typical of Natural Language Processing (NLP),
discourse and stylometric analysis.
- My inclination for historical research and socio-political topics has led me to deepen my knowledge of spatial and
chronological analysis through the acquisition of skills in data visualization.
- Moreover, after obtaining a specific degree related to the publishing sector, I gradually honed my skills in graphic design
and audiovisual editing. The aim was to learn how to use the tools that I would need for my teaching activities, but also
for the dissemination of my research results and the publicisation of the scientific activities I have organized over the
years.
Natual Language Processing | Discourse analysis | Stylometry
My preferred programming environment is R, and I use packages such as Udpipe for computer language analysis or Stylo
for Stylometry. I also master alternatives to Python such as Wordnet Lemmatizer, Spacy Lemmatizer, Stanford CoreNLP,
and Gensim Lemmatizer. Beyond the use of such code-based tools, I also find useful some software for lexical analysis,
especially when teaching to non-specialists.

Digital Mapping
Digital mapping is one of my main specialties. Since I started working with digital tools, I have addressed spatial and
cartographic issues because my research on historical and political issues has important geocritical implications. Of all the
disciplines typical of the digital humanities, cartography is the one that combines the most digital tools to create
meaningful visualizations. My point of reference is still Leaflet and programming in JavaScript and R, which again remains
my preferred development environment.

Network Analysis
Network analysis is another type of approach to data visualization that I find extremely useful for the analysis of data that
are typical of social sciences and humanities. I often use it in conjunction with geographic analysis, combining the benefits
of geocriticism with the study of relationships between elements. I am specialised in the use of Gephi and I alternate this
type of analysis with the use of R. In fact, some packages that allow the visualization of data in relation to each other such
as SNA, TSNA and NDTV, are used in the analysis of temporal networks in historical studies. One of the areas I apply this
type of studies to is social network analysis. Data mining on the Internet is another of my main interests and I have
recently been involved in web data mining, as I worked with the tools provided by Digital Method Initiative (Netherlands)
or MyWebIntelligence (France).

knowledge of Adobe software, especially Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.

Audio and Video Editing
Audio-video editing is one of the activities that I learned first as a semi-professional musician and then put to use in
didactics at the University of Lorraine, and later in my Marie Curie project. I disseminated the results of my research
through a YouTube channel dedicated to popularizing it to the general public.
Audio Editing
I think audio editing is necessary for anyone involved in teaching. The dissemination of audio material in the form of
podcasts is an example of what can be used to reinforce teaching in a department. The tool I prefer using is Logic Pro
because it integrates perfectly with my main machine which is a Mac, but for teaching I have always used Audacity which
is an open source multi-platform and which gives excellent results.

Video Editing
Video is one of the most powerful tools that can be used in multimedia communication and I have already worked several
times on video editing for research projects such as Prismatic Jane Eyre, a project whose digital content I am responsible
for, or Last Letters, my Marie Curie project. After trying a few options of open source software and Adobe Premier, I also
chose a product available in a Mac version called Final Cut, which I think is the best program for video editing. Of course,
there are also many possibilities in the open source world and if I had to choose one, my choice would be Lightworks

I earned a double doctorate from two different institutions: the University for Foreigners of Perugia, Italy, and the
University of Lorraine, France. I followed two PhD trainings and had two different vivas on the same day, the first in Italian
(Language Sciences) and the second in French (Literature). I wrote one dissertation for both, which was substantially
longer than a typical PhD dissertation. It had two sections, one for each doctoral discipline. It is mainly written in Italian
with a few sections in French.
